Biography of Leonard Gerwick

I was born in New York and studied art at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn.  After graduation I worked a lot here and there (a couple of years for McGraw-Hill), traveled and lived in Europe, had a discontinuous sojourn in the military, earned an M.A. in Art History at the University of Toronto and wound up in Massachusetts.  There I taught art for nine years and co-founded a performing company, The Gerwick Puppets (  We tour throughout New England.  I have a daughter, Emily, who with her husband and their two sons, live across town in Marlborough, Mass.

I spend a great deal of time painting, drawing and thinking about it.  When I’m painting, that is wielding a brush, I paint with my body—my intuition.  My mind follows.
